John Dvorak has passed. I’m of mixed emotions. First off I’m more positive about his contribution to the overall technology journalism of the early PC days through the 90s, despite how many things he got wrong. He was a firebrand and commanded attention.
I can’t recall the year but there was a point where I was listening to him and Adam Curry on their No Agenda podcast (narrator’s voice: there is always an agenda) and they just started getting deep conspiracy oriented. Curry definitely was and maybe (hard to recall) Dvorak just didn’t push back on the narrative.
Anyhow all I can say is that I shared a boarding gate with Dvorak on a Boston the SFO flight and I went up and thanked him for all of his PC Mag writing and we lamented that it was the longest flight inside the continental US.
RIP JD. Even if I’m conflicted about part of your career.

About 14 years ago when I was on a road trip and stopped in Seattle, I was invited to a party. At this party there were these little tiny glasses sitting in a flat-bottomed bowl of ice. It’s election night. My wife and I are holed-up in this hotel that my political party has rented out for the evening. Outside, people are being violently beaten for whom they voted for. Went to one of the only really enjoyable outdoor concerts I can remember (maybe I didn't enjoy it enough). The finest in dirty hillbilly music: The Cross Canadian Ragweed Red Dirt Roundup. For those ignorants, Cross Canadian Ragweed is a horrendous allergan in Texas, and it's also a band. In a great show of humility, CCR was the worst major act in their line up.
