John Dvorak has passed. I’m of mixed emotions. First off I’m more positive about his contribution to the overall technology journalism of the early PC days through the 90s, despite how many things he got wrong. He was a firebrand and commanded attention.
I can’t recall the year but there was a point where I was listening to him and Adam Curry on their No Agenda podcast (narrator’s voice: there is always an agenda) and they just started getting deep conspiracy oriented. Curry definitely was and maybe (hard to recall) Dvorak just didn’t push back on the narrative.
Anyhow all I can say is that I shared a boarding gate with Dvorak on a Boston the SFO flight and I went up and thanked him for all of his PC Mag writing and we lamented that it was the longest flight inside the continental US.
RIP JD. Even if I’m conflicted about part of your career.
